Chandigarh... not so poor?

I just wanted to clarify something: someone listening to us complain about our disgraceful accommodation mentioned "What did you expect? India is a 3rd world country?" On the contrary, these are just a couple of photos of the houses around our neighbourhood. Just to prove a point I uploaded these to show that India is not all rubble and with the amount of money we are paying (which I have been told is a lot) there is no reason for us to be living in slum like conditions.

  1. :D this is funny, i do not know you, but ... i am not saying india is good or bad, india simply is, there are many good things as some bad things about india as well as any other country, i like india and i guess i wouldn't like if somebody called my country a 3rd world country, even though it's true and you can't argue against facts - "India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Despite India's impressive economic growth over recent decades, it still contains the largest concentration of poor people in the world.") anyway... there are things that should be mentioned, even though many or majority of people in india are rather poor, you do not realize one thing - having money does not equal being happy.... i can tell that poor indian person is happier than average slovak person (they are more content, relaxed, kind of happier, simpler, etc), so... it's not all just black and white and money is NOT = happiness :) just remember that one day when you will be traveling through europe

  2. aha, yes and my point was - even i can run around slovakia and take pictures of the best places - but - those do not represent the whole slovakia, but rather a tiny part of it.

don't forget that chandigarh is the richest per capita city, so... it does not really represent real india + liky my friend said "india just manages to stay intact" meaning that india is so huge, diverse, etc that i guess it's kind of surprising it's still one country and as other indian friend of mine told me, even he has a cultural shock when he goes to some other part of india ...
